Jannik Sinner Defeats Novak Djokovic in Shanghai Final

Jannik Sinner, the world No. 1, triumphed over Novak Djokovic in the ATP Masters 1000 final in Shanghai, winning 7-6(7-4), 6-3. This was their ninth meeting, with Djokovic previously leading the head-to-head, but Sinner has now beaten the 37-year-old Serbian three consecutive times, including at this year’s Australian Open semifinals. The Italian secured his 17th career title and seventh this season.

Djokovic’s Quest for 100th Title Falls Short

Djokovic, seeking his 100th career title, started the final strong, but Sinner pushed the first set to a tie-break, which the Italian won 7-4. In the second set, Sinner took control, securing the match and earning his fourth ATP Masters 1000 title. Djokovic, ranked sixth in the ATP Race, continues his pursuit of a spot in the ATP Finals.

Sinner’s Path to ATP Finals

With his victory in Shanghai, Sinner has already qualified for the ATP Finals in Turin. Reflecting on his win, he called it one of his toughest challenges, noting the significance of beating a tennis legend like Djokovic. Meanwhile, Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz, last year’s Shanghai champion, withdrew from the tournament due to post-surgery recovery.
